As the winter chill finally recedes and the landscape begins to green, the City of Redwood Falls is preparing for one of our favorite annual traditions. Spring is a time of renewal in Ramsey Park, and our staff members are working diligently to welcome back the diverse residents that make our park a premier destination for families and nature enthusiasts. We are pleased to announce the schedule for animals returning to the Ramsey Park Zoo for the season.
The Return of Familiar Favorites
Now that we are seeing more seasonable weather, our parks staff will be moving the birds back from their winter quarters. Visitors can expect to see them return to their enclosures within the next week or two. While our resident bison remain in the park year-round, the return of the birds marks the official transition into the summer season and provides a wonderful opportunity for residents to enjoy the outdoors.
Welcoming New Residents and Animals Returning to the Ramsey Park Zoo for the Season
We are particularly thrilled to introduce a new addition to the Ramsey Park family this year. Through a partnership with local farmers Shawn and Meghann Kodet, the park will host Scottish Highlander cattle. This unique breed is known for its distinctive long hair and impressive horns, and we believe the public will enjoy having such a majestic species in our local zoo.
What to Expect This Spring
We are currently waiting for the last of the spring calves to be born and stabilized. Our partners at the Kodet farm want to ensure the calves and mothers are healthy before the move. Our hope is to bring a bull, one or two heifers, and several young calves to the park in approximately two weeks.
In addition to these new arrivals, the goats will also be returning. As with the cattle, we coordinate closely with local farmers to ensure the animals are ready for the transition. Typically, the goats arrive once the new spring kids are born and weaned. We anticipate their return in the next two to three weeks, bringing a lively energy back to the park.
By bringing in unique species like the Scottish Highlander cattle, we aim to provide a fresh and educational experience for every visitor watching the animals returning to the Ramsey Park Zoo for the season. We are proud to continue offering these unique community benefits that make Redwood Falls a special place to live and visit.
Plan Your Visit
We encourage residents and visitors alike to keep an eye on the park over the coming weeks. The process of animals returning to the Ramsey Park Zoo for the season is a phased one, dependent on both mother nature and the natural cycles of the farm animals we host. We look forward to seeing the community enjoy the vibrant life within Ramsey Park once again. Whether you are coming to see the newborn calves or the familiar bison, the animals returning to the Ramsey Park Zoo for the season remains a highlight of the Redwood Falls experience.
