Redwood Falls Dog Park Gets a Major Upgrade

The Redwood Falls Dog Park has just completed a highly anticipated upgrade — the addition of a brand-new shade shelter and several key amenities, all made possible by community donations. This enhancement marks a major milestone in the city’s ongoing efforts to improve public spaces.

A Long-Standing Vision Comes to Life

This project has been a personal priority for Ross Nachreiner, Parks and Recreation Director, who has long envisioned bringing shade and comfort to the dog park. His goal was to make the space more enjoyable and accessible for pets and their owners, particularly during the warmer months.

Thanks to the generosity of local donors and businesses, this vision has now become a reality.

Built by the Community for the Community

The dog park shelter donation was made possible through RBC (Redwood Building Center), who provided the structure itself. Construction was completed by local professionals Don and Chad from Beran Construction, who finalized the build on May 2, 2025. The new shelter provides shade on both sides, enhancing the overall comfort of the park.

Expanded Amenities Through Private Giving

In addition to the shelter, a generous $15,000 donation from Dennis Honetschlager helped fund several park upgrades, including:

  • Concrete improvements
  • New benches for seating
  • A green water fountain designed for both pets and people

These enhancements further elevate the Redwood Falls Dog Park experience and reflect the power of community-led investment.

This Was a Community-Funded Project — With No Taxpayer Expense

This upgrade stands as a proud example of community-funded development — achieved with zero taxpayer expense. Not a single public dollar was used to complete the shelter, benches, concrete work, or drinking fountain. Instead, local donors and businesses stepped up to bring meaningful change to a public space that benefits everyone.

A Model for Redwood Falls Community Improvement

The City of Redwood Falls Parks and Recreation Department extends its heartfelt thanks to RBC, Beran Construction, and Dennis Honetschlager for their generosity and commitment to our community. This project stands as a testament to what can be accomplished when we invest in our shared spaces — and each other.

The Redwood Falls Dog Park is now more welcoming, more comfortable, and more community-driven than ever before.
