Redwood Falls Municipal Airport Hangar Project Supports Aviation Growth and Long-Term Investment

The City of Redwood Falls is moving forward with another important investment in local infrastructure through the Redwood Falls Municipal Airport hangar project. This project will add needed hangar capacity, support aviation activity, and help prepare the airport for future use.

The project includes the construction of a new 80’ x 80’ hangar, creating a 6,400-square-foot space at the Redwood Falls Municipal Airport. For a community like Redwood Falls, airports play an important role in regional communities like Redwood Falls, supporting business travel, agriculture, manufacturing, healthcare access, emergency services, private aviation, and overall connectivity.

The Redwood Falls Municipal Airport hangar project is one more example of the City’s continued work to take care of public assets while planning for long-term community needs.

A New Hangar for the Redwood Falls Municipal Airport

In April 2025, the Redwood Falls City Council awarded the construction bid for the Redwood Falls Municipal Airport hangar project to Everstrong Construction Inc. for a total project cost of $837,042.32.

The project is funded through a combination of federal, state, and local sources. A significant portion of the cost, 97.5%, is covered through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Infrastructure Grant and a MnDOT Aeronautics state companion grant.

This outside funding allows the City to move forward with a meaningful airport improvement while limiting the local financial impact. It also reflects the importance of maintaining strong airport infrastructure in Greater Minnesota communities.

Lease Agreement Helps Cover the City’s Share

As of February 2026, the City has entered into a lease agreement for the new hangar with Donner Aerial Spraying II.

The lease revenue from this agreement will fully cover the City’s local share of construction costs. This is an important part of the Redwood Falls Municipal Airport hangar project, as it allows the City to expand airport capacity while responsibly managing local dollars.

Once complete, the new hangar will support additional aviation activity at the airport, including services connected to local and regional business needs. In Redwood Falls, that includes industries such as agriculture, manufacturing, healthcare, public services, and other employers that help drive the local economy.

Additional Airport Pavement Maintenance

In addition to the Redwood Falls Municipal Airport hangar project, the City is also moving forward with pavement maintenance for the hangar taxilanes at the airport.

This work helps maintain safe, reliable access around the hangar area and supports the long-term condition of airport infrastructure. The total project cost is $66,592.50, with $46,614.75 covered through MnDOT Aeronautics state funding and the remaining $19,977.75 local share funded through the Airport Project Fund.

Together, these projects show the City’s continued commitment to maintaining the Redwood Falls Municipal Airport and preparing it for future use.

Investing in Infrastructure for the Future

The Redwood Falls Municipal Airport hangar project may not be the most visible project in the community, but it is an important one. Strong infrastructure helps support local services, business activity, agriculture, and future opportunities.

By securing outside grant funding, entering into a lease agreement, maintaining pavement access, and adding needed hangar capacity, the City is making a practical investment in an asset that serves Redwood Falls and the surrounding area.

The City of Redwood Falls will continue to share updates on airport infrastructure projects and community investments as they move forward.
