The new Redwood Area Schools elementary school build is slated to break ground in May 2024. After a mild winter, hopes that a wet spring does not interfere with the construction season are high as the school board, administrators and the community at large anxiously await continued progress on the new building.
Community Invited to Groundbreaking
To celebrate the start of work on the new elementary school site, a groundbreaking ceremony is being planned for Wednesday, May 15, 2024 from 4pm to 5pm. The ceremony will be held at the site of the new school which is located just south of the existing Reede Gray elementary school.
The brief ceremony will feature a short introduction, diagrams of what the new building will look like, light refreshments and a photo opportunity.

This groundbreaking ceremony is open to the public. The event will be attended by school board members, administrators, principals, Kraus Anderson Construction and Wold Architects & Engineers Representatives. Attending this event is a great opportunity to see what the new facility will look like and get any questions answered!
Next Steps for the New Elementary Build
With a timeline of being open for learning for the 2025-26 school year, work has already begun on the new elementary school build. Fencing and temporary power have been brought to the construction staging site located at the former Wood Dale Nursing Home lot.
Bids for upcoming work have also been awarded at the April school board meeting and include a number of local and regional companies including Voss. Voss will kick off the construction project in May and has been awarded a lot of the sitework that will be done.
Ground work will start in May, weather permitting.

Site analysis and design as well as site review and planning began in March 2023 for this new elementary school build. With the many pieces that needed to fall into place to make this project happen, the groundbreaking ceremony is the perfect opportunity to celebrate what has already been accomplished and look ahead to the exciting future.
