A familiar downtown building is getting a new look as Blush & Bliss Med Spa prepares to move into a space of its own in Redwood Falls.
Owner Maisie Hagert started Blush & Bliss in March 2024, operating from a single room inside Hair Company Salon and Spa. Since then, the business has continued to grow, creating an opportunity to purchase and renovate a nearby building that offers more room for services and future expansion.
The project is more than a new location for a local business. It's also bringing a historic downtown building back to life while creating additional opportunities for wellness services in Redwood Falls.
From One Room to a Downtown Storefront
As a registered nurse, Hagert was interested in the growing medical spa industry and the opportunity to build a business of her own.
"I have always wanted to be a business owner and my own boss," Hagert said.
When she began looking for a larger space, a particular downtown building was already on her radar. Hagert appreciates the character and history of downtown Redwood Falls, making the property a natural fit for her growing business.
After noticing a for-sale sign in the window while dropping her daughter off at dance, she decided to take the next step and purchase the building.
Preserving a Piece of Downtown History
The building is believed to date to the early 1900s, although its exact construction date has not been confirmed. Over the years, it has housed several businesses, including Great Plains Gas and Pine Tree Dairy, which served lunch and ice cream.
During the renovation, Hagert also uncovered a small piece of wallpaper with hearts and names written on it, apparently left by young people years ago. She carefully saved and framed the piece, planning to display it in the new space as a reminder of the people and stories connected to the building.
Preserving details like these has been part of what makes the project meaningful to Hagert as she works to give the building a new purpose.
A Renovation From the Inside Out
What initially seemed like a straightforward update became a much larger renovation after Hagert discovered the building lacked insulation. The project expanded to include a new roof, insulation, electrical and plumbing improvements, and updates to the exterior and storefront.
Hagert and her family have taken on much of the work themselves, including removing old plaster to expose the original brick walls and completing exterior repairs and painting.
Several contractors and local businesses have also contributed to the project, including Munoz Brothers, Laraway Roofing, Goblirsch Plumbing & Heating, Klabunde Electric, Total Glass of Redwood Falls, Sid's Signs, and Spray Foam Solutions.
The work has required more time and effort than originally expected, but the new space is taking shape.
Expanding Wellness Services in Redwood Falls
The new location will include three treatment rooms and create opportunities to offer more services under one roof.
In addition to the cosmetic and wellness services currently offered by Blush & Bliss, an advanced esthetician is expected to rent space in the building and offer services such as brow lamination, lash lifts and tints, and chemical peels. Hagert is also interested in finding a massage therapist to rent space and operate a business from the location.
Blush & Bliss offers services that extend beyond cosmetic treatments, including hormone replacement therapy, IV hydration, hair restoration, blood draws, and other wellness services.
The expanded space will allow Hagert to grow her business while giving area residents more options for cosmetic and wellness services close to home. Services offered at the new location are planned to be available through the Blush & Bliss website, including appointments with the advanced esthetician, though each provider will operate independently.
Hagert wants the space to feel calm and welcoming, with an upscale atmosphere that still feels comfortable for clients.
"My goal for people is to make them look just a better version of themselves," she said.
Investing in Downtown Redwood Falls
The Blush & Bliss renovation is one example of how investment in existing buildings can support local business growth and bring new activity to downtown Redwood Falls.
The project is creating room for Hagert's business to expand while opening the door for other service providers to establish or grow their own businesses in the community.
Hagert is also pursuing her doctorate to become a nurse practitioner, with the possibility of expanding the clinical services available through her business in the future. For now, her focus is on completing the renovation and preparing to welcome clients into the new space.
What's Next for Blush & Bliss?
Hagert is working toward opening the new location in December 2026, depending on the remaining construction and finishing work. Until then, Blush & Bliss will continue operating from its current space inside Hair Company Salon and Spa.
A grand opening celebration is planned once the business has moved in and had time to get settled. Additional details will be shared as plans are finalized.
