History / Location
The Golden Rule Coffee House is located in downtown Redwood Falls in what was previously the office supply building. The Golden Rule Coffee House came from wanting to restore not only the building but the name. The Golden Rule Ice Cream was originally in this space sometime in the early 1900s (1910-1913). The shop featured candies and of course ice cream!
The Golden Rule Coffee House has an interesting wall dedicated to its history. Just wait until you see the fantastic job done restoring as well as updating the building!
About the Owners/Operators
Powerhouse women: Lexi (Alexis) Nelson, Holly Larsen and Tina & Shon Giernet (Okay, Shon is not a powerhouse woman but he is still an owner!) The intended vision of work is having Lexi serve as the day to day operations manager. Holly will serve as the events and pop ups coordinator. You will also see Tina at the coffee shop on occasion as well though her primary focus will remain with Truly Home Real Estate.
So When are They Going to Open?
If you have read this far, we know you are actually dying to know what we are dying to know. We met with Tina, Holly and Lexi and were able to view the beautiful space that is soon to be Golden Rule Coffee House. They are hoping to be able to have the Soft launch at the end of August with a Grand Opening event after Labor Day (permits permitting!). The hours will be Monday through Friday 6:00 AM - 11:00 AM and the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month from 7:00 AM - 11:00 AM with the occasional “Pop up” events.
Intended Menu
Menu will include but is not limited to espresso drinks, speciality drinks, refreshers, satchel teas, hot chocolate, apple cider, cold energy drink as well as offer baked goods through others in the community. They are planning on partnering with Rubi’s Kitchen in downtown Redwood Falls, Sweet Spot Bake Shop in Fairfax and the Pink Apron Bakery in Spicer.
Investing in Redwood Falls
The owners are very community oriented. Truly Homes Real Estate was looking for an office space. However, with the size of the building that they ended up purchasing, the building gave room for more dreams to come into reality. Tina, Holly and Lexi are starting this coffee house not only to fill the void of no coffee shop in Redwood Falls but to also provide a place for community. They want it to be welcoming. They want people to be comfortable. They want people to sit and enjoy conversations with one another.
As a part of being community-minded, they have worked to not only include and feature the history but also have local contractors that have done the work on the building. Here’s a list of a few contractors that helped make it possible:

Event Space for Rent
As a part of creating a fun, relaxing environment that’s welcoming to the community, The Golden Rule Coffee House will be available to rent the space out for events like bridal and baby showers, meetings and other special events.
Future Plans for The Golden Rule Coffee House
Future plans for The Golden Rule Coffee House include extended hours to feature a lunch period as well as incorporating a lunch menu such as soups and sandwiches. A future, future goal of paying homage to The Golden Rule Ice Cream is to offer candies and good ol’ fashioned hard ice cream.
