Redwood Area Community Center Roof Replacement Marks a Major Investment in a Well-Loved Community Space

At the January 20, 2026, City Council meeting, the Redwood Area Community Center roof replacement project was included on the regular agenda for consideration under Resolution No. 6 of 2026.

The City received four proposals for the project. Two were deemed responsive, while two were disqualified for using an incorrect bid form. The responsive bids were $1,445,000 and $1,717,700, with Jackson & Associates LLC of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, identified as the lowest responsive bidder.

The low bid came in 23% below the Architect’s Estimate of $1,880,500. The City’s monetary responsibility for the project is expected to be approximately $689,265.

Protecting a Space the Community Uses Every Day

The Redwood Area Community Center roof replacement is about more than maintaining a building. It is about protecting a space where families gather, students compete, residents stay active, and community events come to life.

Redwood Area Community Center received new roofing

The Redwood Area Community Center serves thousands of people each year through recreation programming, facility rentals, school activities, senior programming, and community use. The City of Redwood Falls Parks and Recreation Department offers year-round recreational and leisure programming for youth and adults, with more than 60 programs and over 2,500 annual registrations.

Because the facility is used so often and by so many people, long-term maintenance is essential. The Redwood Area Community Center roof replacement helps preserve the building, prevent future damage, and keep the facility ready for the next generation of users.

Why the Roof Replacement Matters

A roof is one of the most important parts of any public facility. It protects the building, the equipment inside, and the people who use it every day.

The original Redwood Area Community Center opened in 2000, making this a timely investment in the building’s future. Commercial roof systems are often planned around a roughly 20-year design life, although actual timing can vary depending on materials, maintenance, weather, and building conditions.

The Redwood Area Community Center roof replacement gives the City an opportunity to be proactive, protect a valuable public asset, and avoid larger issues that can come from delaying major facility maintenance.

Project Scope

The Redwood Area Community Center roof replacement includes the materials, labor, equipment, and disposal associated with the removal and replacement of the existing Community Center and School Field House roof. The contract sum is $1,445,000.

The Parks and Recreation Director will serve as the project representative on behalf of the City of Redwood Falls, and the Mayor and/or City Administrator are authorized to execute the contract and any amendments in accordance with the City’s procurement policy.

Investing in a Facility That Brings People Together

The Redwood Area Community Center roof replacement is one of the most significant facility investments since the 2016 expansion and renovation. It reflects the City’s commitment to maintaining public spaces that support recreation, wellness, education, and community connection.

Taking care of existing facilities is just as important as building new ones. By moving forward with the Redwood Area Community Center roof replacement, the City is helping ensure this important space remains strong, active, and ready to serve Redwood Falls for years to come.

The City of Redwood Falls will continue to share updates on public infrastructure projects and investments that help maintain and improve the spaces residents use every day.
